Design Manager, Galway

Job Description


Our client,  an international construction organisation with offices throughout Ireland, the UK and Europe is looking to  hire a Design Manager to join their team in Galway, Ireland.  As the design manager, you will coordinate design elements and interfaces for tasks and projects, managing design requirements to align with program and budget constraints, collaborating with tender/delivery teams, showcasing strong communication skills, and influencing innovative design solutions, including expertise in Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).


Role Responsibilities:

  • Design Management Oversight: Ensure adherence to design management procedures across projects. Manage essential documents, including the DRM, design program, RFI schedule, MIDP, IRS, and statutory condition trackers. Collaborate within the Common Data Environment (CDE) for efficient information delivery.
  • Tender and Construction Leadership: Take a proactive role in handling design-related responsibilities during tenders and the construction phase. Produce comprehensive written narratives and presentation materials highlighting key design aspects.
  • Design Team Selection and Appointments: Contribute to the selection process of the design team. Formulate detailed design team appointments for consultants and subcontractors, defining responsibilities, especially in traditional procurement.
  • Strategic Design Considerations: Address and provide viable solutions for strategic design elements in both tender and construction documents. Ensure compliance with company procedures related to planning, building control/BCAR, third-party requirements, and brand specifications.
  • Internal Gateway Meetings: Present pivotal design components in internal gateway meetings. Provide summaries covering alternative design solutions, involvement of design consultants, technical challenges, risk and opportunity assessment, contingency allowances, and progress on strategic design items.
  • Health & Safety, Sustainability, and Quality Integration: Seamlessly integrate considerations of health and safety, sustainability, and quality into the overall design process.
  • Collaboration with Delivery and Site Teams: Facilitate effective collaboration with the delivery team. Ensure the seamless integration of buildable and robust design details. Collaborate with the site team and Quantity Surveyor (QS) to explore innovative design alternatives, including the incorporation of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).



  • Level 6 bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience (HSE or acute hospital setting preferred) with proficiency in CDE, BIM, and planning software.
  • Accredited sustainability training with health and safety certification.
  • Experience in site/delivery, commercial, and contract procedures.
  • Understanding of building regulations/BCAR, planning permission, and PSDP procedures.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
